Specialist
Tutors
The use of
specialist tutors and mentors
is highly recommended for meeting
the learning needs of gifted
learners, as is the use of community
resources. Specialist tutors,
both within and outside of the
GKP environment provide an opportunity
to interact in a purpose designed
authentic setting, with a specialist,
broaden students’ horizons
and display a new part of the
world around them or a familiar
part in a new way, make subjects
more concrete, and deepen understanding,
as well as being lots of fun.
Art
Kirsten Herd, our resident
GKP art specialist is working
with the students on a large
communal mural depicting SYSTEMS.
With a ‘Where’s
Wally factor’ incorporated
looking for ‘Sister Timms’
adds some humour to the students’
work.
Capital E
Capital
E continues to provide the specialist
support in computer technology
for our students. Working with
Carl Rayner and Kit Benham the
students have created a soundtrack
for a movie using SONY Vegas and
created 2D animation games with
RPG maker VX.
Science
Stan
Swan is the GKP Mad Scientist
responsible for enthusing students
in a huge range of scientific
fields. Over the past term he
has involved students explorations
of structures and machines and
they have been able to complete
computer tasks, create their own
‘mini-machines’ and
work through ‘Brain Box’
electronic kit activities.
