Gifted Edge: 2005 The Big Picture

The Gifted Edge professional development had several components:

Mini-conferences
Three mini-conferences wereheld in Auckland, Wellington, and Rotorua each year. These mini-conferences gave our teachers access to leaders in gifted education in New Zealand and opportunities to network and discuss the bigger issues of gifted education. To view the 2005 schedules for these mini-conferences, please click here.

Parent workshops
Annual parent workshops were held in 2005 in Auckland, Wellington, and Rotorua to support the parents and caregivers of students who attend the Gifted Kids Programme. These workshops looked at topics such as behaviour and supporting students' learning at home.

Gifted Edge library
We have a growing library of texts to support our teachers with theory and practical ideas to cater for the needs of their gifted students. These texts were available for teachers to use at the mini-conferences and could be ordered through a postal borrowing system.

Professional development scholarships
S
everal scholarships were awarded each year to support teachers' ongoing professional development needs. Our congratulations go to the following Gifted Edge participants who were awarded scholarships in 2005:
